2009 UNSW Scholarships Fund

The 2009 UNSW Scholarships Fund will provide financial assistance to disadvantaged students; these include low socio-economic students, rural students, Indigenous Australians, and students with disabilities.

A scholarship of $5000 per year for the tenure of a student's degree could support additional expenses such as:
  • tuition fees
  • text books
  • travel
  • computer expenses
  • living expenses
  • medical and dental bills
  • travel and accommodation costs for compulsory placements

Our immediate challenge is to raise $300,000 to support 15 additional scholarships across all faculties ... read more (PDF)

"Receiving this scholarship allows me to better support myself through the University semester. This money has allowed me to concentrate more efficiently on my course load, and I credit my  high distinction average to the generosity and contribution from the Ainsworth family. I would like to thank all scholarship donors for their support of disadvantaged, high achieving students. No matter the amount, this money is a lifeline and a god send, and makes every difference in the world to me and others like me."

"I knew when I was 14 or 15 that if you wanted to make changes you needed to know the law. I didn't know how I would do it. When I was offered a place in the Indigenous Pre-Law Program I still didn't know if I could do it. I worked really hard and once I got into the mode of studying law I really enjoyed it."

"The Balnaves Foundation Scholarship will help a lot with paying for accommodation
at Shalom college. I think that being able to live on campus is an advantage for rural
students, especially for me as I am not familiar with the city."

"It is a privilege for me to be offered this scholarship. It is enabling me to do
what I always wanted to do and to do it at the right place. This scholarship is
recognition of my effort, which encourages me every single day, and most
importantly it is going to be my financial support during my degree".
